Big congrats to Jeremy Freedman for smashing the FWD record at the TX Mile! Running 198, 204, 205 and 208mph!
The TX Mile is an event that has been gaining a lot of poularity over the past few years. It has brought out a lot of big competitors and a lot of amazing cars. The 'race' is simple, who can go the fastest from a dead stop, in 1 mile. Easy enough, right?
The typical 600-800whp 'supercars' that you will find out there will usually end up in the 190-200mph range.
Jeremy has been at it a few times now, bettering his speed at every showing. Clocking a healthy 171mph the first time he took the VW out there, a lot of people took notice. The next year when he went 193mph, people really started wondering what was going on. This year when we really got things dialed in and the clocks showed 208mph, the specatators were down right confused.
The TX Mile is a unique experience. From the starting line, you get a good view of the first 1/4 mile or so. Past that, you just watch and wait for the board to pop up a top speed. Many of the big power cars really get after it on the first 1/4 that can be seen and you get used to seeing that and 180-190mph speeds pop up. The little VW that could doesn't look too exciting on the first part of the track. Running 700whp through Hoosier high speed road race tires doesn't work so well down low. You should see the faces of the spectators when they watch a nice smooth Motec traction controlled launch and 200+ show up on the other end! WTF?

Jeremy's VW is a 1998 GTI with a 2.8L VR6 engine. A MoTeC M800 ecu controls an M&W Pro 16 CDI ignition and 6 Injector Dynamics ID1000 injectors. Air is provided by a Bullseye Power S366 turbocharger. The combo makes 716whp and 600wtq at 29psi.
