Ford Injector Data, what does it all mean? 2 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 4
We've had a lot of questions as to what Ford's terminology refers to in regards to injector data.

Their method of characterizing fuel injectors is actually quite simple. Especially if you have a picture to refer to. What you see below is a screenshot of the worksheet we use for characterizing injectors for use with Ford ECU’s.

www.injectordynamics.com/fordcal.bmp

The blue line is the raw flow vs pulsewidth curve for our ID2000 injector at 14V, 100Hz, 7bar fuel pressure.

The white line is the high slope which is a straight line approximation of the linear portion of the flow vs pulsewidth curve.

The red line with markers is the low slope which is a straight line approximation of the lower non linear portion of the flow vs pulsewidth curve.

The red dot at the top of the low slope is the breakpoint.

The red dot at the bottom of the low slope line is the offset.

The minimum pulsewidth is the represented by the “knee” of the flow vs pulsewidth curve which occurs at approximately 1.3 msec. This is the pulsewidth required to fully open the injector, and below this pulsewidth the flow is somewhat erratic and unpredictable.

What Ford has done is to approximate the injector characteristics with 2 straight lines, and a defined crossing point which is the breakpoint. Scrolling down to the picture below you can see a zoomed in version of the same screen capture.

With this data the pulsewidth required for a given fuel flow is calculated by the ECU. If any of this data is wrong, the amount of fuel delivered by the injector will be wrong.

This can be especially tricky in the low slope range, and if we are using large injectors we will spend a lot of time operating in this range, so the data better be spot on.

Tony,

Can you please elaborate on how to use your Ford injector data for the ID2000 injectors? On your site where the Ford data is listed, you say the units are not always straight forward in the Ford and/or SCT software and we should contact you directly on how to use the data you provide.

Thanks.

The problem lies in the later model and international market, and the fact that some of the tuning softwares are not up to date on all parameters and units.

Email me with your exact application and I can fill you in on the details in regards to it.

There is a bit of info here as well.

Just sent an email to t1race@gmail.com, but I forgot to mention my processor code is CLU2. Don't know if that matters. Thanks for the quick response!

These are the values I am starting with (but scaled down slopes and break point by 2.55 due to 0.03 lb/s slope limit).

I think I got it figured out. The only value that needs to be entered with different units is the min pulse width. Ford data shows this in milliseconds but you need to enter it into SCT as seconds. So all you need to do is divide the Ford value by 1000 to get it in seconds.

Got the car running just fine.
