Water conducts heat significantly better than air. This allows this compact 9.8x3.8x3.8 inch core to achieve cooling efficiency that would require a much larger physical footprint in an air-to-air setup.
Unlike air-to-air systems, this core requires a complete water circuit. You will need a water pump, a heat exchanger (radiator), a reservoir, and plumbing lines to circulate coolant through the unit.
This is a raw core. You must fabricate a custom housing or end tanks that separate the air charge path from the water coolant path, ensuring they do not mix but allow for heat transfer.
Air-to-Liquid systems allow for extremely short charge pipes, improving throttle response. They also provide consistent cooling even when the vehicle is stationary, which is ideal for drag racing.
Yes, it is perfect for rear or mid-engine layouts. It eliminates the need to run long charge pipes to the front of the car, as you can run water lines to a front-mounted heat exchanger instead.
